OUR WORSHIP LIFE

Our primary act of worship is the Eucharist which we celebrate as a community once a week:
Saturdays at 5 p.m.
Immanuel Lutheran Church
1500 W. Elmdale
Chicago, IL 60660
773-720-1040

Space for Corporate Worship

We have a meal together following. Sometimes it is pot-luck (usually the first Saturday of the month) and most often it is a local affordable restaurant.

Our worship is grounded in the Western Liturgical tradition, although we will from time to time borrow from the Eastern tradition as well. Anyone familiar with Roman Catholic, Anglican, and Lutheran rites will feel comfortably at home with our liturgical practice.

Our style of worship is a blend of the solemnity and dignity appropriate for a celebration of Christ's presence and the informality appropriate to a gathering of family and friends.

We are a religious community under the Rule of St. Francis, but that does not separate us from our sisters and brothers who are not Franciscan. We welcome all Christians to receive the sacraments. We welcome all people to join in our times of fellowship.

We are not a parish. You can worship with us occasionally or regularly. You can worship with us as an addition to your celebration within your congregation.

In our homilies (and hopefully by our example) we will exhort you to live a life of service to others in the name of Christ.

While we will never turn down contributions from those who are so moved and can afford it, contributions are neither expected nor a condition for worshiping with us. We do have a basket on a table for free will offerings, but we don't pass the plate at our worship services. (Yes, contributions are tax deductable and we are happy to issue letters.)

If you would like to worship with us, please join us on Saturdays at 5:00 p.m.

Members of the community pray frequently, both formally and informally. Our members are free to use any one of a number of standard breviaries (books of daily prayer) from Roman, Anglican, and Lutheran sources and we encourage others to explore this discipline. If you are interested in discussing this method of adding depth and breadth to you prayer life, please feel free to contact us (773-720-1040).
