ST. BONAVENTURE HOUSE OF STUDIES
BILLY R. MAYNARD
THE FIRST FELLOW OF THE HOUSE OF STUDIES
We are proud and delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Billy R. Maynard as the first Fellow of the St. Bonaventure House of Studies.
For the past year Billy has undertaken advanced studies focused on researching the correlation and relevance of Biblical texts and theology to the tasks, challenges and potential of business management in the world today. His area of concentration has combined Biblical Studies, Public Theology, Organizational Theory and Management.
A senior partner in a management consulting firm based in the Washington, D.C. area, Billy has spent the past 14 years working with executives and managers from leading companies throughout the world. He first approached us last year while completing a program in Organization Development and Change Leadership at DePaul University.
It was during this period that Billy experienced a clear sense of calling to study theology and to specifically focus on the relevance of the Bible to the world of business. After investigating several seminaries both in the U.S. and abroad, he wrote to us asking if we would be willing to consider designing a program and formation specific to his interests. We were very willing!
During the first year of his studies with us, Billy completed an extensive literature review, completed an introductory paper on his work, and produced a well-formulated plan for his continuing studies in the year ahead. His initial findings will be introduced in a series of articles in upcoming issues of the Progressive Catholic Review. These articles are the basis for a book project designed to describe the relevance of the Bible's philosophy of management to business leaders working in the public arena.
Billy Maynard lives with his wife of more than 30 years, Monya, in Northern Virginia. Together, they have four (grown) children.
Billy's appointment as a Fellow is based on his demonstrated scholarship to date and his on-going commitment to the field of Public Theology in the future. All of us involved in St. Bonaventure House of Studies look forward to a long, faithful and fruitful partnership in the ministry of Christian scholarship in which we now welcome him as a colleague and as a friend of this educational ministry.
